Frequently Asked Questions
What’s included in my tuition?
Tuition includes five organic daily meals per day (breakfast, lunch and three snacks), organic milk, wipes, and weekly enrichment classes (music and Spanish).
Your tuition also covers additional staffing that Schooner provides above and beyond local requirements and pays for an above market compensation package to our team members that includes health insurance, paid time off, dental, vision and retirement matching.
What kind of meals are provided?
Our catering partner, Gourmet Gorilla, provides fresh, daily organic meals and snacks. Vegetarian, vegan, and allergy sensitive options are available. We selected Gourmet Gorilla as our partner because they offer variety, introducing food from different cultures in a kid friendly and approachable way.
How do you communicate with parents during the day?
You’ll be provided with frequent updates and photos throughout your child’s day via the Procare app. You’ll see what your child is learning, their adventures outside, and info on diaper changes and naps. Parents can also send messages to the staff with any questions they might have.
Do the children go outside?
Weather permitting, our children go outside twice per day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. They go to nearby playgrounds, take nature walks, play teacher led games, and participate in their community.
How do you maintain a secure school environment?
All doors in and out of the school are locked, and staff is present at the front desk each morning to admit families using our remote lock system. At registration, parents will compile a list of contacts who are authorized to pick up their children. Anyone who is unrecognized will be asked to show ID to enter the facility.
My friends at other daycares say that teacher turnover is a problem. How is your staffing?
Turnover in early childhood averages 50% per year, and Schooner’s turnover has been at 12% or less for three years running! Staff members enjoy robust benefits including PTO and 401k, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement for furthering their education, and opportunities for career growth through expansion.
What are the classroom ratios for students to teachers?
Schooner’s approach is to exceed the ratios required by the state, adding an additional teacher to each room. This encourages learning, gets kids more 1:1 time, and gives staff additional support.
